Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Electronic File Cabinet

Is there an electronic file cabinet feature or add on for QBs that would allow the client to access their files

I would like my clients to login to my website and review monthly reports electronically. Is this possible. Does quickbooks support hosted programs?

QB does not in itself support hosted programs. However someone who is familiar with programming and can use the Intuit SDK probably could take the data from QB and make reports that are viewable over the web.

Not sure I would actually like to have my data viewable as such because of security issues of the net but I blieve it could be done.

Regardless of whether or not you run the QuickBooks online (Online Edition or using a hosting provider for Pro/Premier/Enterprise), there are many services available that allow you to offer certain files to your client via the Web. Emochila.com, for example, has an option to include a web-based folder system with a website. CPAasp.com offers eFileShare web-based folder system, and also has document management partners who offer client portals (such as www.Acct1st.com).

It sounds like this is essentially what you're looking for - is a client portal where you and your clients can share files, documents, etc.

There are several ways you can do this. I send reports that do not contain any real identifiying characteristics via email. I export P&L and Balance Sheets to excel and email them direct to clients but first delete any identifying names. They look pretty Generic but they know what it is that they are getting.

Also I have had good success using webex upgraded to their platinum version and using the file transfer mode to transfer P&L's and Payroll Reports direct to their desktops.

These are of course small clients who do not have to worry about other employees seeing this information on a network.

To get the webex you go to remote desktop. The subscription for the first for the Platimum is $30.00 a month. Do not know what will happen next year at renewal time.
