EFW2 records layout

US QuickBooks Premier : 2011: Accountant

In PA, the local counties collect taxes that must be remitted quarterly and reconciled yearly.  The county websites allow us to file the w-2's online by using the specs for SSA: (http://www.lctcb.org/employer/efw2_records_layout_2011021.pdf).  Is there a way to find this file to use and upload?  This would be of great help to PA accountants.  Our local tax office IT dept. has been trying to contact Intuit, but has had no response to requests.  Could this be addressed before next year-end?

Currently you can file you PA W2's using the State W-2 E-file feature, but local taxes aren't included.  You could edit the EFW2 file that's created by the feature and add those taxes, but that's not a task for the faint of heart.

I did try "messing" around with that a bit...but it wasn't worth the time it was taking for all the clients that I need to file for.  This whole county thing has just been such a hassle.  It would be great to be able to have this feature with the local as with the PA w-2's...which was so awesome.  Do you think that there is ANY possibility that this could become part of a future upgrade???   :)

In Georgia (after HOURS) of trying to get the GTC (Georgia Tax Center) system to take the CSV version, we realized that what it in fact takes is the EFW2 layout for uploading w-2's REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY EMPLOYEES YOU ARE UPLOADING.  For the G1003, the state manager i was working with actually e-mailed the notepad with the format already in it  to me and i inserted the information for my client into their format.  The worst part is that now any tax payer that sends in more than $500 per quarter in state withholding MUST upload using the GTC system or they will be fined!  NOT fun!

I am trying to upload a W-2 from quickbooks that has SSN's starting with "9" and the website won't accept those.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I had this problem last year and unfortunately cannot find where I wrote down the solution.

In Quickbooks, couldn't you go to Employees/Payroll Tax Forms & w-2s/create state w-2 e-file?  That IS the format that is uploaded into ssa.

That's what we're doing.  This one client has two employees with SSN's that start with "9".  GTC says that's illegal and won't accept the W-2 with that information.
