Edit Sales Orders in prior periods w/o needing a password

We need to edit sales orders quite frequently before creating invoices but if the order is in a prior period that has been closed a password is needed to make the change. We do not want to give everyone the password. Is there a work around for this

 No not really

the only thing I can think of is prior to closing the period, edit the sales order and bring the date up the present, in the memo block you could enter the original date

If I've helped, mark it solved.

We create 50-60 sales orders per day.  We do custom printing and promo products and the actual quantity billed isn't known until the job is finished.  Which sometimes takes weeks or months.  Because the sales orders do not affect the accounting records until turned into an invoice, it seems that changes should be able to be made to them.  It would be impossible to change dates on all of the open sales orders before closing each month.

Yep with that many I can see where that would be a problem

When you create an invoice from a sales order, and you change something, when you save the invoice QB asks if you want the sales order updated - that might be one option

Other wise all you can do is open the period and make your changes - QB locks everything, non posting included - no one knows why

If you want to allow changes to Sales Orders, you need to check the "Exclude Estimates, sales orders....from closing date restrictions" Box.

Go to Company > Set Closing Date
