Earned income credit unable to efile stepchild unless we use child. is this irs sanctified?

what does your error/diagnostics say--that by itself should not cause an issue-at least by EIC rules
ok yes proseries gives you the error upfront during entry--states you must use son-daughter-or child--if e filing so yes child would be acceptable
Did you use the code for "dependent child who lived with you"? Be certain that you did.

Child or stepchild, I still don't know how you get the kid into the computer to e-file him or her.
I realize we have to use child to efile even thought stepchild qualifies for EIC, but when we questioned IRS one response was" they should be mailed in, we want to check them". I am a little shocked that Intuit programmers cannot give us a better answer than to go to publication 1346. They are telling us to change this to child to efile then I would think they would have worked this out with IRS. thanks for your help
In most cases wouldn't the taxpayer's stepchild be the spouse's child? if so child seems to be the appropriate answer.
I agree and I use" Child " for children of the Spouse in the worksheet
Only now "child" is unacceptable. You have to stipulate son or daughter. Lots of changes to be made.
I am aware of the son or daughter and use that but you also have to use 'Child" as stepchild will not work
That's not where you would choose "child" or "stepchild" but also applies. Relationship must be clearly defined.
You have to use Son or Daughter instead of Stepchild and also Code L in my program. Enough for me on this one time to put it to rest
Just wanted to let you know that IRS says they want these to be mailed in and that is why we cannot efile stepchild returns. The situation is that both parents do not live together. the stepson lives with the ex-step mother so he is clearly not her child. I know son or daughter has t go in the blanks to efile and that stepchild does qualify for eic, just wondered why we could not enter this code. ok i am on to harder issues. thanks for your input.
