Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Do I need to be an Administrator in Win XP to use QB Pro or Premier

We have a number of users using QB Pro and Premier ( both 2007 and 2008) . We want to limit the changes users can make to the system e.g. prohibit them from changing screen refresh rates, IE settings, LAN settings, Virus control etc. It can be done by setting up the user without Administrator status. However, QB does not work if the user does not have administrator status. Can anyone help us? Thanks

Adam recommends:

1) Create a "Quickbooks Users" group

2) Add your users to this group

3) Give the group Full Control to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareIntuitQuickBooksRegistration (RegEdt32.exe)

4) Give the group Full Control to the .QPG key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (RegEdt32.exe)

5) Give the QuickBooks Users group Modify rights to the "X:Program FilesIntuitQuickbooks..." folder
