Defaulting to single user mode instead of last used mode - Why???

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 9.0: Standard

I am the only individual who occassionally has to switch to single user mode to make a change and I always switch back to multi user mode before exiting QB's. We are using ES 9.0, R12.

My PC is always left on because it hosts QB's even though I may not have QB's open.

I now log on from another computer in another building  via logmein to access this host computer.

Several times another user has opened QB's first ( having exited QB's the previous day in multiuser mode) and her PC opens QB's in single user mode. As a result, I am unable to access QB's because she is in single user mode. She is not manually switching to single user mode and she was not in single user mode when she exited QB's the previous day.

The fix is to call her and ask her to switch to multiuser mode. I need to know why her computer is defaulting to single user mode. Does it have anything to do with me accessing the host PC via Logmein?

I have noticed some problems using Logmein - such as it printing checks back to front, even though my setup is front to back. Using Logmein Print has no setting to allow me to change it to front to back.

I am just wondering if this problem of QB's opening in single user mode on the first client PC to open Qb's may have something to do with me accessing the host PC via logme in. I do occassionally have to switch to single user mode on the host PC and then change it back to multiuser before I exit Qb's using Logmein.

I know others have reported similar issues with a PC opening in single user mode even though they exited in multiuser mode the previous day. Does anyone have a clue as to why QB's is resetting  the first Qb's client PC to open QB's to single user mode - even though they exited in multiuser mode?

Try this:

Open the company file in QB.

Go to "File" "Close Company/Log Off"

Go to "File" "Open or Restore Company"

"Open a Company File"

"Next"

Select your company file. At the bottom of the screen there should be a checkbox that says "Open file in multi-user mode", and then "Open". That should ensure that QB always opens in multi-user mode.

If the solution has assisted you, please click on the "Thumbs Up".

lolagranola,

Thanks for the step by step instructions - I followed them exactly and I will just have to wait and see if the problem comes up again.

While the checkbox already had a checkmark in it for multiuser mode, on more than one occassion (i.e. ID 1099 accounts) I have seen a software upgrade bring over the checkmarks, but, Qb's can't see them. Reentering them fixed the problem.

Fingers crossed that it works for  this situation as well.

lolagranola,

This did not solve the problem.  We still have a client PC, if she tries to log in first,  somehow  it is switching her PC to single user mode.

Still looking for a solution to this on going problem.

Well, after this happened again I made sure the user printed out the message she got before she backed out of QB's. I found the help article for error H202 and determined that her PC was having problems finding the server due to an internal firewall on the Network.

By turning off the firewall it solved the problem. Note, we did not turn off our firewall between the server and the outside world.  Apparantly there was some sort of internal firewall that needed to be turned off.

Also note that when she got the first message, even though she did not open QB's it automatically switched her PC to single user mode for QB's - so the next time she went to open QB's she was already in single user mode. Since turning off the internal firewall we have not had any further problems.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.
