Deceased spouse - IRS e-file rejected as it says does not match SSA

ProSeries

I just had 2 IRS e-file returns rejected that involved one spouse being deceased.

In both cases, the spouse was not the primary SSN.  One of the e-file rejects said another return was filed in the past year where the secondary SSN was the primary.  I know this is wrong as far as the 2009 filing as I prepared that one.

The other e-file was rejected as it says the secondary (deceased) spouse name/SSN does not match SSN records.  Again that is wrong.

I have already filed 2 other deceased returns this year (one, unfortunately for me, was my parents return as my dad passed away on 2/2 of this year) and the other was a single person.  Both of those were accepted without any problem.  In that case, my dad was the primary SSN

Does anyone have any clue what to do?  I don't want to mail these in if that can be avoided.

Thanks,

I had a rejected efile last week that I could not figure out. It had to do with crossmatching SSNs.... all of which were correct... I ended up calling the IRS. The agent said there was some sort of 'glitch' on their end.... appologized a couple of times...... I ended up paperfiling....

If the returns are correct from your standpoint and won't go through after a couple of tries save yourself the aggravation and paperfile it...

I'd rather be flying........

One of the two I realize now was my error (my wife who works with me noticed I put something wrong and they were a new client)  So that one hopefully will be fine.

The other one though is the reason you just said with the crossmatching SSN and I have been doing theirs for at least 5 years

I tried making the deceased the primary and the living spouse the secondary and sent it.  I will see if this is rejected also.

Hello,

I am curious to find out if you were able to successfuly e-file the returns with deceased spouse.

I have exactly the same rejected return with same error message.

Thank you!

Recheck every letter in the name and every digit in the SS #. Also check for an accidental punctuation mark in the name. Then compare name and ss # to SS card

When anyone doing nothing needs help, I will gladly help that person do nothing.
