Data lost in QB Enterprise 7.0

Hi,I have been using QB for the last 4-5 years and I was surprised about the incident i m going to explain.I converted/upgraded one of my data files in QB Enterprise 5.0 to QB Enterprise 7.0. After which when i saw my transaction in upgraded versions, they were gone for the last three months. I thought it might have been my mistake. But after few days when i had to do more entries (created financials (balance sheet, profit and loss statement, general ledge, cash flow statements, and bank reconciliation),I even took printouts of what i have done, then I backed up my data file and when I opened it after few days, to my surprise last processed data was again lost. Then i tried to restore my backed up file thinking that it must have got my lost data, but it was also not showing the data which i processed in last job.Kindly help as i am in great trouble. Thanks

"Converted one of my data files"??? Are you saying you have ES 5 and ES 7 now loaded on your computer and one company file you moved to ES7, leaving other companies on ES5?

It sounds like you are doing work in ES7, but, when you go to open the company file the next day it is going to ES 5. Or, you think it opened to ES7 and you actually did the work in ES5.

When data goes missing the first thing I do is make sure I have opened the correct file. I have an archive file I occasionally use. If I am not careful QB's opens the next day to the archived file (last file used) when I think I am in the active file.

Not sure what QB's will open if you have the company file on your system in ES 5 and ES 7.

Mary

Hi,

Converted means I upgraded my QB ES5 file to ES7. Yes ES5 and ES7 both are loaded on my same system. No, i know which file is ES5 file and which one is ES7 file. I opens the file by browsing through the explorer and not through the archived files (last files used displaying in front window of QB).

My main question was if, i am well aware which version my file is of and which version i am opening and if, once, i have upgraded my file to ES7 and done some work in it and next time when i opened the same file in same version how did i loose my data. Where it has gone eventhough after doing work i took printout of my GL and other transactions.

Thanks

I know this may sound redundant, but this really does sound like the data was accidently entered elsewhere, since you do have a printout.

If this file is at a client office, and not yours, where only their file as accessed, open ES7, go to Open, Previous Company, and just view the last companies opened to check the path. If the default has not been changed, you should see up to 4. In this case, there should only be 2. Sometimes, an error that I see is the file is pulled from the server to a local machine to do the update, put back on the server, but not deleted from the local machine until a later date, and sometimes local copy is opened in error.

Do a search on all computers posting to Quickbooks, and network, for the name of the data file. If what you tell me is correct, you should only find two - 1 on ES5 and one on ES7. If you find others, don't open yet - but look at the file itself, in detail view, to see when the last time it was accessed. I am assuming you know when this data was entered. I am also assuming you have not deleted any files since this data was entered. If this is not the culprit, open both your ES5 file and your ES7 file, and run an audit trail report for the time period entered, a few days on either side. This should tell you if the data has been entered at all.
