Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Data loss when login times out

US QuickBooks Online Edition

If login times out while working on a page, QBO should prompt for login info and then complete the page update instead of losing that data.  It is inefficient to be working on an estimate, get distracted, come back and click save only to be taken back to the login page, then the home page and no way to get back everything you just entered.  It seems to be standard web app behavior to pick up where you left off upon relogin, why doesn't QBO do this?  Don't see how security would be the issue as re-entering login info is fine.

Hi eguts,

You may want to consider changing the timeout duration time.

  1. Choose Company > Preferences.
  2. Click Company on the left menu.
  3. Click Sign out after inactivity.
  4. Choose the time period of inactivity (1, 2 or 3 hours)
  5. Click Save.

Note:

  • Timeout setting can only be changed by the company administrator and it applies to all company users

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Sherrie

You should be getting a credential info prompt on timeout, are you not seeing one at all? Irrespective of being on any page in QBO? It should look like

I have my logout preference set to 3 hours.  I can't imagine I had 3 hours of inactivity while working on that estimate.  Therefore, that leads me to think I was logged out by some other mechanism - server reset??

Typically, when this happens I see the credential info prompt above, but upon entering my credentials, the browser refreshes to the application home page, dropping the data of whatever form I was working on (e.g., estimate).  The back button on the browser will pull up the estimate i was working on, but all changes/data entered are gone.
