Customer Referral Tracking System
Is there a way to set up customer referral tracking system in QB 4 Mac. Example; customer refers three people and receive a free item.

The feature that you are looking for is not available in the most recent versions so I doubt is in QB 4. It is more of a CRM type of feature than an accounting feature so you may need another app
QB 4 is a very outdated version, Intuit no longer supports it, and there aren't many people using it anymore. I recommend you upgrade to 09 (if you still using PPC hardware) or 10.

Sorry for any confusion, but when I wrote QB 4 Mac i abbreviated, and should have written QB for Mac 2010. Do you know if this version might have what I'm looking for.

What you need is not really accounting related so QB doesn't really support it.
You may be able to create a couple of custom fields where you assign a code to a customer that is being referred by another customer and the name of the customer that referred him/her.
You can then create a transaction report that shows these fields and sort by one of these fields so that you can see the referral source. You can also export the report to Excel if needed.
This is not a great solution but may get you closer to what you need. Another option would be to put the referral source in a field that you don't utilize (for example we don't use bill to address). You can then export the customer base to Excel and count the referrals there.
