Customer Balance Summary report versus Accounts Receivable on Balance Sheet

US QuickBooks Premier

I'm comparing the Customer Balance Summary and Accounts Receivable on the Balance Sheet.  I assumed the totals would be the same.  But they are a lot different.  Am I wrong in believing that they should be the same?  Dates are the same.  Balance Sheet basis is accrual.

the most likely thing is that you are not using the right period on the account receivable section please try changing  the period and see what happens.Quick boooks is period sensitive

 Dear David,

I'm sorry but it appears that you are not familiar with the reports I'm asking about.  Balance sheet run for all of 2012 shows A/R as $303,572.  Balance sheet run for today only shows same.  Customer Balance Summary as of today shows $304,380.

Again my question:  should the two reports match?  Many thanks!  Peggy M

Peggy,

I don't see a receivable balance sheet. But the Customer Balance Summary and the A/R Aging Detail should have same total.  the Aging report is a more detailed list of invoices. Sorry not much help.

Hi Tops--I was referring to the regular balance sheet.  Accounts Receivable is one line on it.

Anyhow, you've confirmed my belief that the Customer Balance Summary total and Accounts Receivable total on balance sheet should be the same on any given day.

But mine are not.  Any ideas as to why?  Many thanks, Peg

Not sure. But you can pull both reports up at same time (just don't have them full screen) and go into the Modify report and make sure both are pulling same information on display tab and filters tab. Good luck wish I could be of more help!

I am using QBOE to produce these reports.

I had to call QBOE customer support to get the answer--which is:  Customer Balance Summary assumes current date as aging date.  So Balance Sheet A/R and CBS will agree for current date.

However, A/R on Balance Sheet for YE will NOT agree with Customer Balance Summary for same date, unless you also change the CBS aging date to equal YE.

I'm not clear what CBS gives if you don't change the aging date--which is changed in the "Customize" section.

The Customer Service Rep suggested this is a "feature" not a "bug" since most people run CBS for current.
