HOW DO I GET THE TOTAL ON THE "CUSTOMER BALANCE SUMMARY" REPORT TO PRINT? IT PRINTS ON THE DETAILED REPORT.

It works for me. Are your margins OK? Have you tried more than once?

Everything looks OK on the monitor but the total is displayed as astrics ****** when printed. All of the margings are OK and I have tried it several times.

The *** means your field isn't wide enough to display the numbers. Click on the diamond at the top right of the column and drag it right to expand the field.
