This is our first year e fliing and we are not able to efile corps because of the critical diagnostic - New York File Number Missing.This number use to be with the instruction packets that came in the mail years ago but we dont receive those anymore. Anyone know where we can find the FILE NUMBER, or if there is a way to overide this diagnostic.ThanksJim
Publication 76 - pages 14 & 15 explain how the File Number is calculated (all you need is the EIN and the NY Form number of the return you are filing) or you can call NYS and ask for the file number
Publication 76 - pages 14 & 15 describe how to calculate the file number. You will need to know the NY Form number you are filing to look up the 2 digit FCC code and the EIN number of the taxpayer. Or you can just call NY and ask for the File Number
I, too, would love to know how to either find that number or override the diagnostic. Any luck?
The New York File Number is assigned on a form CT198. The number on the form begins with "TF".
If the taxpayer cannot find the CT198, then they can call NY toll free at (888) 698-2908 or dial directly to (518) 485-6027 to retrieve their number.
