Is there any way to stop quickbooks from scanning for open estimates when you create an invoice?

Short of making the estimate inactive, no.

Is there any way to make them all inactive? I have a huge database of open estimates but don't use them to create invoices and now (with this new version) it takes almost 5 full minutes before it allows me to start a new invoice!
