Creating a Change Order
how do i create a change order
how do i create a change order

Hi matt,
If you have the contractors or accountant’s edition, a notation explaining the change will be added to the estimate when you change the estimate.
With other editions, no notation is added, but you can still change the estimate.

Changing the Estimate after creating a progress invoice can create problems another option in any version is to create a separate subjob and Estimate {customized as a Change Order} then invoice from that Estimate [change order].

Are you invoicing the change order with the job then you must add it to the estimate if you are using the Progress Billing In QuickBooks.
You can add a line to the estimate for the change order and it does not create a problem, changing the amount of an item will create a problem on Progress Invoices.
If you are using Groups then you can even add the change order item to the group and the % will be correct for the entire group after invoice.
If you invoice the change order separately then enter a separate estimate for the Change Order. I may or may not use a sub job depending on the circumstances. I would use POs to track my Subcontracts and Change Orders.
If you are going to use sub job and you have more than one job for the customer make sure that you set up your Job under your customer and then Original Contract and change orders as Sub Jobs. This way you don’t have the “Other” in your reports.
