I think it kind of speaks for itself - the cost of the goods sold. If you are selling pink flamingos, the COGS would show what you paid for the flamingos that you sold. Do you have something specific in mind that you are questioning?

COG's are expenses directly relate to a product or service. This would include inventory, purchases (your cost of inventory), cost of labor, all materials & supplies and other directly related expenses.
