Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Copy instead of backup

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 11.0: Standard

I have a client that cut and pasted their QuickBooks file to another drive, rather than backing up and restoring. Now it can't be opened. Any suggestions?

It should open without any problems.  What happens?

One thing to try is to open the new folder/location where the QBW file is and remove any files with the same name and a different file extension.  Then try opening the file.

A message pops up that says, "The user name "Admin" is not a recognized user.  Check the spelling or ask your QuickBooks Administrator to set you up as a new user.  When I click through that, I get an Unrecoverable Error Code 20187 88926.  The files she copied over were .QBW, .QBW.DSN, .QBW.ND, .QBW.TLG.
