converting estimates to invoices
How do I get a zero balance on my estimates after invoicing them?
How do I get a zero balance on my estimates after invoicing them?

You don't unless you manually change it. Estimates stay constant whether they've been invoiced or not. You could use Sales Orders to see if it has been invoiced in full, but not Estimates.

Thanks for the reply, Stacy. When I go to the "How do I" help on an estimate and click on "create invoice from estimate" and click on "see if estimate has been invoiced", it says--if estimate has been invoiced, the open balance for it will be zero. None of my invoiced estimates show an open balance of zero. Is the Quickbooks "How Do I" answer incorrect?

The open balance will show $0, but the 'Open Balance' is not on the actual Estimate.
If you open your customer center so you can see the customer information with transactions listed under it. (Customer list to the left.) Right Click on the bar where it says Type, Num, Date above the trasactions. Select Customize columns. Move Open Balance from the left to the right column and click OK. If a Estomate has been fully invoiced HERE it will show 0, but never on the Estimate itself.
(There are other places to see the Open Balance too.)
Hope that helps

The open balances I am seeing now relate to the invoice. The invoices which have been paid are zero. I am trying to get the estimates to automatically know when they have been invoiced so they go to zero or go inactive. Currently, when I invoice a customer, I get a list of estimates from which to choose. I have to search through all of the estimates which have already been invoiced for the one which has not been invoiced.
