Condense - bring it back to Canada

QuickBooks Canada : Premier 2012

Condense feature worked very well for me & others until it was removed with QB2008.

Some said it did not work - & that was why it was removed. The only reason it was removed was that we (Canadians) were forced to upgrade to the 2008 (US platform).

Well, it has been a few years now. Can we not get it back now? It was very useful! Any that said that they had problems, probably had file problems. I never had one problem & all should be past that now with GST/HST problems.

I would also like to note that this Forum did not ask me what QB Product I am using. Guess that is why we spend so much time answering/guessing US Forum. Was it a Canadian? Who knows? Edit - it did ask after I entered the question. - however way too many options that most will not take the time to click.

I am using Canadian QB Premier 2011 w/ Payroll. I am not going to upgrade to 2012 until about May 2012.

Others on this Forum do not like what I say. BUT, something as important as condense has been taken away. We have got very little back since the upgrade to 2008.

Bring "Condense" Back

Are we the only two that thought "Condense Feature" was good?

Sickens me that "others" will not join on this thread. Some think that they - must go along - with QBooks ,to be in good standing on this Forum.

Condense was a very usefull & important feature. It worked very well, if one knew how to use it. Sad that others may have had file problems & it did not work.

I will miss it - if not brought back. Guess others will not - others have not complained to Intuit.

Guess I will now have to spend the extra time now to start new files. It was so simple & smooth before using "condense".

Guess that Intuit gives, then takes away! I do not like it. If no one else complains - we will never get it back - Shame - it was so simple.

There is another thread somewhere on the forum about this.

I just got my computer back from 7 days in the shop and Its 01:00AM , on Wednesday morning and I have been re-installing programs since 07:00PM on Tuesday, and I'm a little wiped right now.

I'm sorry I can't take the time right now to track it down.

I'm with you all the way on this one, and I'm also pived that Intuit will now only sell the Accountants Version to Pro Advisors. I thought they were in the business of selling Software and not in the business of forcing customers to become Pro Advisors.

A Pro Advisor is should be some one who wants to be a Pro Advisor, not some one who is forced to be a Pro Advisor!

All the best for the New Year.

Warren

Well Intuit just wants to make as much $ as they can. I never fell for the "Pro Advisor" thing. I know I could have got some free stuff over the last several years. Nothing is ever free or for very long.

I will just stick with my fully paid, ordinary licences for me & my clients. Nothing was ever gained - and now seems that nothing will be lost.

Happy new Year to you Warren!

I hope they never bring it back it was nothing but trouble and is still causing trouble. Thankfully it was dropped.

I am posting on behalf of UK users where the condense feature really screwed up Vat and especially on upgrades.

We found it easier to start again with new datafile. None of the files were damaged or faulty it was after running condense.

I appreciate your input, however, CONDENSE, always worked, very well for me.If your file was clean - like, do verify & rebuld prior & clean up any messes  -  Then do - your condense, worked perfect. If you strayed from that & got off the rails - that is not my problem.

Hate to say, that you somehow did not grasp the condense! It should work!

Verify & rebuild is a tool I use for several issues and its always been a case of use this before doing any large upgrade or as then a condense.

However on Uk data files its a huge problem. Where it was used it actually did not make much of a difference, as most of the time it was used to condense the data so the system speed improved.

We found starting new data file each year gave us much better results and speed increase was quite surprising. The speed degredation over the year still did not reach the levels seen before the condense.

What we did find a surprise was we hardly ever looked back at old data. It was never an issue from then on.

Oh Canada!

I want to keep 8 years of stuff on a file, just in case of a CRA audit. I have already done a full print on paper, to match every year-end. I rarely ever look back at old data, ever more than a year for day to day stuff. I buy new computers to increase speed. I just want it there - so I can condense each earlier year, that I no longer need. All I am saying is condense worked for me & reduced extra work, EH!
