Concurrent user question

QuickBooks Point of Sale : Pro 9.0

Client has POS server (licensed) and QB running in back office, a sales workstation (licensed), and a laptop (licensed) that manager uses for periodic bulk sales, other tasks.

They wanted / we added another sales workstation just to handle 'busy' times. Did not add a license, as plan was / is to either use it OR the laptop, but not both. Neither are used a lot...

Ran fine, with POS client running on both extra workstation and laptop, with use logging in or out to a machine as needed. They did some work with a scanner and needed to reboot server. Now there is a problem...can't just log in / log out, but have to only have POS client running on one machine or the other. Perhaps it is just a setup change (having an engineer looking) but now I am wondering just how it 'should' work. My understanding is that licensing is concurrent users, but not sure if that means logged in to system or just having POS running.

Based on research / discussion with Intuit, it is clear that only one workstation can be using a shared license at a time, meaining POS can be running on only 1 of the stations. Why client was able to leave it running on two, but only be logged in as a user on one or the other appears to be just a quirk that reboot handled and eliminated.

Not a big issue...just wanted an explanation.
