Commission payments and tracking customers

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2011

(insurance agency) I have agents that work through our agency. Products that they sell, commissions are paid directly to agency. I pay agents a % of commissions received. Want to track cust, agent pay automatically. Any suggestions?  I currently set up customers for each insurance company.  I set up items for each cuustomer I receive commissions from.  Feel like I have to do double work and too much tweaking to try to get the information I need.

 When you get the commission check, does it identify the agent that made the sales for the check?

I would set up the Items as the type of policy or whatever it is you really sell.

Customer can be insurance company; Job would be actual insured name, if it matters to you. Sales forms would be processed at Customer:Job level.

Agents would be Sales Rep, and now you have the ability to use the Sales Rep reports and functions for commissions.
