We need help in billing our clients. We use QuickBooks 2010 Premier/Accountant's edition. Billing takes too long and is to complex. Also, the billing part of QuickBooks is really not user friendly and is somewhat awkward to work with. Help!
We really need more description of how you use QB to do this. It shouldn't be hard, so you probably are overlooking how to streamline the workload.

Here's how to do this:
Enter tasks using Timesheets, and put some basic explanation of the work done in Notes. This is not a diary, this is Notes. Mark as billable any time to directly bill to customers.
Create an invoice for one of these customers. Select Add Time & Costs, then use the Options button. Select that you want to transfer Notes (and item, description, or both). You only need to set this once if you always bill the same way.
Customize the template to include Service Date, unless you are going to "roll" together multiple time entries.
Once again, you need to post here if you need followup. I can't answer you where you keep posting follow up comments.
You mention a lack of standardization. This is yours to control. You set up and use Items. You mention doing a lot of word processing on the invoices. What are you entering and why?
Have you taken the tutorials: Help menu > Learning Center. Every QB comes with one of more sample files. Have you opened one, to see how it is set up and how it is using the data?
