CHECK PRINTING PROBLEMS WITH HP OFFICEJET 6500A PLUS PRINTER
Has anyone had problems getting their checks to print from QB on a HP Officejet 6500A?
Has anyone had problems getting their checks to print from QB on a HP Officejet 6500A?
I have the same printer. Just started having problems last night. The only way I'm able to actually print checks is to reboot pc.
Same problem with my HP 6500...brand new but seriously considering getting a different printer as I have not been able to find a solution.
Rebooting doesn't help -- my preprinted check stock (from my bank) seems to be the only paper source it rejects. It will print inkjet paper and card stock but not these checks which are exactly the same size as the inkjet paper and just slightly heavier.
HP walked me through everything they could think of and I even updated my Quickbooks to 2011. Both HP and QB say its the paperstock the checks are made of?????
I have the same issue...I talked to HP over 40 mins. & the tech told me to return it, get my money back (I just bought it 12.21.10) & buy a different brand...that there was no fix for it!!!
While on the phone with HP for other problems we stumbled on to something that works - when you get to your "Print" screen choose options and for media choose the "other specialty papers" option -- it worked for some reason.
I tried all the fixes I could find. I made two calls to HP and was told there was no fix. I said "so what am I to do...buy a different printer?" And I was told "yes".
So I packed it up & returned it to Office Depot & bought a Lexmark...NO problems.
I've been a loyal HP printer user for over 10 years...but never again.
A HP Tech called me today and told me to change my print quality to "draft" and lo and behold, it work. I was ready to murder my HP printer. I hope this helps!!
After upgrades you may need to go to START, COMPUTER and on the far Right is search. Type in QBPRINT>QBP and then delete those files. And then you can print again! After spending a hour with tech support at HP we figured it was Quickbooks problem. Tell everyone.
H Jenny,
I just purchased the HP officejet 6500A Plus printer and could not get the printer to print my checks for payroll. Each time it told me I had the wrong paper size. I called HP and their representative was very rude basically told me its not the printer its the checks, have a good day, goodbye. No trouble shooting ,no nothing. Intuit was really great about sending me a new order of checks. Just got them today and yep, they still won't print. I googled finding your blog so its good to know I am not alone. Sorry I have no solution to our problem other than to take this not so good printer back to the store. That's what I'll be doing in the morning. Good luck!
I spoke to HP now, they told me that all new printers have a sensor and it detects if the paper you are printing already has text on it. Thats why it wouldnt allow checks to print. So you need to go to printer options and change settings to "draft" or "fast draft" so it overrides the sensor. I spoke to Patricia at 877-917-4380 and she was very helpful.
I had this problem for so long and finally figured it out. HP was no help except for the suggestion to switch it to "draft" quality.
Depending on your operating system, it will be different... but basically... get to your printer's preferences ... Click on the "Paper / Quality" tab... and make sure that "Paper Type" (XP) or "Output Quality" (Windows 7) is set to AUTOMATIC. That's it. In Windows 7 ... there are a little more steps ... For Windows 7 you might have to go to printing preferences, change media type to plain, click on advanced, and change "Output Quality" to AUTOMATIC. OH YEA... AND MAKE SURE TO CLICK "APPLY" AND NOT JUST "OK". It works like a charm. In Windows 7 The "Quality Settings" will automatically check the "Custom" checkbox when you put it on AUTOMATIC. That's good... that's the way you want it.. So, the Quality Settings "Custom" checkbox will be checked and you will see that "Normal" is still selected but it is grayed out. Hope this helps somebody. I was going to go on HP's site and tell them the same thing since they haven't figured it out yet, but I don't want to make a new account... I have too many accounts already. If someone has an HP customer blog account... feel free to copy and paste this in there if you want. Good Luck People ;).
THANK YOU EHUEHIOOD!!!!!!!!!! I spent hours on the telephone with HP tech support with no results. You answer to set to "draft mode" was the solution for me.
Change the printer quality to 'Draft' - works great! The printer paper sensor is turned off in draft mode. The print quality is still very good.
Okay so I just got this to work. I was changing all these suggestions in my printer preferences and was getting nothing. I finally changed the Draft mode and the plain paper in the print window in Quickbooks and it worked. My signature was lighter than usual but besides that everything else looked fine. I dont' know if the plain paper is a must or not but that's what it was set on . Just be sure to do these changes in the print window of QB and not in the printer window.
I have the same printer and I thought I was losing it. Everyone looked at me crazy when I told them it wouldn't print the QB checks and told them the message of mismatched paper came up. I have worked on this for more than 3 consecutive days at work and right when I gave up I found this information. Changing the setting to draft really worked. Thanks a million.
My HP Officejet 731Oxi all-in-one prints too large for the check size. I never had this problem on my Canon or any other printer. The QuickBooks error message says that my printer does not support the QB font style or something like that. Has anyone else had this problem?
Seems that HP and QB do not like each other much.
My HP and QB play very well together.
Go to file>printer set up>check/paycheck>click on the second tab for fonts>see if you can select a different font. I use Ariel 10.
Dear dhhcpa,
Thank you for offering help. I followed the steps that you listed, but Ariel 10 is already selected. When I printed on a Canon printer, I had absolutely no issues. The error message that I get is specific to this HP. Any other help would be welcomed. Glad that your devices do play well together.
Keep trying fonts.
Or try to set the print image to draft. You can practice on copies of checks without burning real ones.
