Can you transfer clients to a new Lacerte Account?

Lacerte : 2010

When I tried to renew online this year, for whatever reason, even though I renewed through My Account, Lacerte assigned me a new account number. I have made multiple calls (frustrating) to customer service, but they don't seem able to resolve this. I am wondering if I should just keep the new number. The big issue is whether I can transfer my existing clients to the new number. Has anyone sucessfully transferred clients from one Lacerte account to another?  And will I have a problem using my existing EFIN and PTIN with a new account?

Any help is appreciated.

The EFIN and PTIN come from IRS.  Your Lacerte account number, or any software you may use, is independent of that and will not cause any problems.

I doubt you will have trouble transfering clients and using the new number; although I would try to get support to answer that.

The more I know, the more I don't know.

Thanks...I understand the EFIN and PTIN come from the IRS...what I was wondering is if there will be a problem having the same numbers associated with more than one account.

You should use the new Lacerte customer number. You will not have a problem with two different Lacerte customer numbers associated with your EFIN and PTIN.

Thanks, Lisa. Can I download a new prep file with the new number to my existing Lacerte 2010 program? If I use the new number, I will lose all of my settings. I am trying to find a way to use the new number while preserving all of the settings in my existing 2010 program (whichw as set up under the old account number).  I am thinking that if I overlay a new prep file on the old program it will only change the prep info and the settings will stay the same.

Have you updated your Lacerte software since May 31st?

"On Tuesday May 31st, Lacerte posted Release 5 for download. The release contains major changes to our internal systems that will require you to download Release 5 to gain REP access, send e-file returns, or use products such as Tax Research or Import. To download this release run the 2010 Lacerte Web Setup Utility from your computer's desktop or go to Start, All Programs, Lacerte, choose 2010 Lacerte Web Setup and follow the onscreen instructions."

I am sorry, but that answer is completely non responsive. Yes, I updated the software (using the old Lacerte id number). But what does that have to do with the fact that, when I renewed, Lacerte created a new account number for me??? Or that I am trying to find a work around for this problem since Lacerte seems unable to fix it?

My question had to do with prep files. Maybe you were responding to someone else's question?
