Can I use Logmein to backup QB's and then transfer the QBB file to a flex drive?

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 9.0: Standard

I could use some help from someone who is familiar with Logmein Pro regarding doing a backup of QB'sES 9.0 on a remote computer and then transfering the QBB backup copy to the flex drive I plug in to my computer.

I am new to Logmein Pro and I have not used their "transfer" feature yet - I want to be sure there are no issues before I attempt to move a backup copy of QB's ES 9.0 from the remote computer to my computer.

So far, I have done a backup of the company file from my computer via Logmein Pro. I decided to try to place it on the remote computer desktop (so I could easily find it) but I got a warning message recommending not to place it on my C drive.

What I think I can do is place the QBB file on the remote desktop and then use the transfer option in Logmein Pro to move it to my computer desktop. From there I can copy it to my Flex drive.

I need to back up the QB's file on the remote computer daily and be able to put it on my flex drive which I take off site each night.

Am I on the right track?

You can save it to a file on the remote computer called QB Backups and then use the file transfer feature to copy that file to your computer.  I also like to use the program Drop box.  I backup the programs to that program file.  you can pull that in from their website as well.  Do not host the quickbooks file there, though.  It causes crazy things to happen to the data file.  Just use it for backups.

Lynda,

Thanks for your help. So if I understand you correctly I could create a file folder on my desktop called QB backups, create a backup copy of QB's and save it to the file folder on the desktop? From that point I would use the Logmein transfer feature to move it to my computer?

Mary

I wouldn't save it on the desktop.  Just save it in my documents.  Then you can open the file transfer feature and click my docs on the remote pc and transfer to your own folder you make in your pc.  It will copy and paste the exact folder on your computer.  It is a pretty nice feature with the Logmein Pro version.

"but I got a warning message recommending not to place it on my C drive."

I think this is the QB warning that you are going to make a backup on the very same computer that is the one you are worried won't start tomorrow, so your backup isn't really in a safe place by doing this. It doesn't matter since you know you are going to manually (outside of QB) copy the backup to a safer location once the file exists.

If the pop up included the Change Location button, this is a QB message.
