Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

I used the 1099 e-file and the confirmation said they'd email me within about a week when the IRS accepts or rejects the forms. Well, Intuit tells me the forms were transmitted on 01/19/2012 and we still have not heard one way or the other. Has anyone else had this problem? Intuit refuses to look into this further. It took a 34 minute phone call to even get this much info!

More detail in addition to PAPsupportTech26....

The Intuit 1099 E-File Service launched Jan 1, 2011. Currently it is only for the 1099-MISC. There is a fee. QuickBooks Desktop 2011 and newer users can sync their QB data into this online application and e-file to the IRS. The other copies can be printed on plain paper (no forms to buy).

This service can also be used by Intuit Online Payroll customers and any "standalone" user who has absolutely no Intuit products whatsoever.

  • Businesses that need to file 250+ 1099-MISC are required to e-file to the IRS.
  • The Intuit 1099 E-File Service participates in the IRS's combined federal/state filing program. The IRS will share e-filed information with 32 states to simplify state filing. Businesses should still check with their state agencies for any other filing obligations.
  • The 1096 summary form is not required by the IRS when e-filing.

If you have QB 2011 or newer, make sure the company preference for Tax:1099 is turned on. That will enable you to see the Vendors > Print/E-File 1099s menu item.
