CA 2010 due date
2010 Federal returns are due 4/18/11 due to "emancipation day" in DC. Does this apply to CA also?

No. CA returns are due 4/15/11.
I'm not sure that's correct.
I also called the FTB and their rep said the 18th.
The only thing I found in writing so far is the draft for form 3563. The instructions include the language
"Due to the federal Emancipation Day holiday on April 15, 2011, tax returns filed and payments received on April 18, 2011, will be considered timely."
I found this by entering "emancipation day" in the search box on the FTB website.
1- If you called the FTB and 2- If you searched on their website, then why waste our time asking the question. Apparently, you received the same answer twice. I went to the instructions to search for you. Please search first, then ask. We don't mind helping (or we wouldn't be doing this), but do your part first.
Gee tilt, If I already had the answer, why would I ask the question here?
I was polite with my posting. The whole point being to do research before asking a question.
Brian, tilt's point was do the research first. If you can't find any answers or need help translating what you found, then ask here. I didn't read tilt's post as a scolding. Trust me, tilt isn't bashful, you will know it when she scolds you.
Back to more important things though - YesYe?

Per Spidell seminar on 11/29/10 - Yes, Calif conforms to the 4/18/11 filing date.
I was looking directly at the instructions for the 540EZ. I guess Anna's update class is more current than the FTB.
Tilt...who knows?!?! But Spidell's really is the 'cat's meow' when it comes to California info.
I'm not planning on telling any of my clients that the deadline is anything other than 4/15 anyway (but the news will probably give it away).
And regardless of what they say on the news, YOUR news to your clients is "ABC stops filing returns after 4/15 or puts them on extension."

Since Anna answered your question, I have to ask -------- what in the world is YesYe?
California gives you an automatic filing extension through October 171, 2011. You don't need to apply for one. Here's what you should do if you can't file by April 182, 2011:
This is from the ftb website....CA conforms to the Fed. Except for MA all the states had the same filing due date. I checked most of the states as a project before attending the spiedel update class in Jan this year.
