Budget vs Actual vs Prior Year
I would like to develop a comprehensive set of financial statements that compare current year to prior year to budget within quickbooks. I am currently forced to do it in Excel.

I'm looking for the same thing! I need a report that shows year by year and then the income vs the expense side by side not at the bottom of the page.
Please let me know if you get anywhere.
I also need that type of report. The report I send to our Board needs to show this year to date, last year to date, this month, same month last year, budget to date, and annual budget. Is there a way to edit one of the canned budgets or is there a template I can work with? For now we have to generate several reports, export those to Excel and then cut and paste the columns we need.
I'm looking for the same type of report. Does anyone have an answer?
You're right - I am used to be able to have this on one report
actual
budget
fcst
last year
month AND year to date.
The reporting is not very robust.
I solved the problem with an application called F9. All the data from Quickbooks is moved to a table and you build your reports on excel. Hit the F9 key and refresh the data. Works good.

Could you explain where and how to start the F9 process. I am trying to do the business budget for next year based on 2006 performance and can not get the information I need.
Thanks
Cathy
I would also like to understand the F9 process. As it is the end of the year, I am trying to put this together while doing all the other year end things. ANY shortcut is a good shortcut. Thanks!
Hello, thank you for posting! I believe jelewis was referring to a program he created called ?F9?. I would recommend doing a web search to see if you can find it.
Thanks,
Amy

I have to use Excel to get Budget vs Actual vs Prior Year. Can someone tell me how to get it in Quickbooks.
The "F9" product is available. However, I believe you have to pay for a custom configuration because they do not have an off the shelf product available for QuickBooks.
However, there is product similar to "F9" that works with QuickBooks and Excel called "QB Data Link" available. This program moves the QuickBooks data to a .XLA file that is accessed from within Excel. You just specifiy a particular GL account and a time period. Slick!
fyi... Big Red Consulting changed the name of "QB Data Link" to "Report Link for QuickBooks." Same product still available
If you go to QuickBooks Tasks and then Reporting.
There are reports there that you can download and use in Quickbooks.
One report is a P&L with budgets and prior year comparison.
Also, there is a balance sheet accounts with prior year comparision, and an income statement with prior year comparision. All of these can be exported to Excel, too. Good luck.

There are custom reporting products on the Intuit Marketplace that create these statemements also. See

Try the ?profit & loss budget vs. actual? report, under ?budgets & forecasts?.
Display columns by ?year?, and set the date range to cover last year and this year.
This should give you last year?s actual (and budget) and this year?s actual and budget. Richard
