Begin start date of file for 2009,not this year or today's date

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2009

I set up a new account for an amended return, I need the start date to begin in January of 2009. It won't let me do this.

The starting date for a company file is something entered in the setup interview when the file is created. However, this should not matter much. If there is no closing date password (company file admin can reset), past transactions for any date can always be entered.

I guess the real question is, what are you trying to do where the starting date could cause you a problem?
