Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

balance sheet error

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows

My balance sheet on accrual basis is not balanced. On a cash basis it is. However, it is only unbalanced if I display as "total". If I display monthly than every month is in balance. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct?

Try to re-build your Qb file (from File > Utilities > Verify and Rebuild). Rebuild it a couple of times. If it does not help, you will need to find the transaction that went bad, delete and re-record it. I always find the date of the transaction first (by changing the date on the balance sheet and watching which date it turned from unbalanced to balanced - or the other way around). Good luck!

Reka:

Thank you, I will try the re-build.  My problem is that I can't find the bad transaction because the out of balance only appears when you use the "total" display.  If I display by month, week, or day it is always in balance.  Have you ever seen this before???

No, I have not seen it this way - but it does not mean that it cannot happen. Normally I leave the balance sheet on total and just change the date on it to find the corrupted transaction.
