Balance sheet doesn't balance

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2009

I cleared my A/P account of bills that shouldn't have been there because I received mdse. in POS & checked the "already paid" button, but now my balance sheet is out of balance because the liability has been reduced but the I/A acct. wasn't.

Sounds like de linked transactions. Try running your utilities program to verify data and rebuild if necessary.

Mary,

I ran the verify data utility and the results came back with no errors in my data.  Maybe it will help if I describe the steps completely.

1) received items in POS and checked the "already paid for the merchandise" box

2)entered the credit card charges in QB using inventory asset account

3)to remove all the transactions that appeared in a/p because of the way I received the merchandise I went through the pay bills function, and used the discount tab to zero out the transactions.

4)now my liabilities reflect the correct $ amount, but my assets are still showing those I/A assets twice.  Once from the POS input and once from the cc transaction I entered.

5)I deleted all the general journal transactions to correct a/p and now the balance sheet balances again so it appears there's a step missing once I zero out the a/p transactions, how do I also remove one "set" of I/A transactions?

I don't use inventory or POS - so I am not the best person to assist you. Try posting your question with the additional information you provided to the POS forum. Someone on the POS forum may be able to figure out the problem.
