Autofill a formula date field when a check box is checked

Intuit Websites

is there a formula (or other means) to auto populate a date field when a check box field is checked?

I have 2 fields I use in a particular task where we have the vendor check a box and when they do, we want to track when it was.

I am looking to do this rather than a form rule.

Thanks

Good Morning

If I am understanding your question you would like to stamp the time and date at the moment the box was checked? This is possible, using the checkbox as the trigger.

You would use a formula date/time box and add this formula

If ([Your checkbox field name goes here]=true, Now ())

if the checkbox and the formula field are in different tables you will need to create a relationship and a lookup field.

Hope this helps

Kind Regards

Paul

The solution

Hmm, actually the formula above will always show the current date and time if the checkbox is checked.

Generally what developers do to capture footsteps in the sand in a low tech way is to use a text field set to Append Only.  So rather than have a checkbox field it would be changed to a yes/no multiple choice field (or any other words).

If you just want to see the date visually, then that is all you need to do.

But if you need to parse out the date of the last update to that field to be available as a stand alone field, it would be a formula-date fieldwith a formula of

ToDate(
Left(Right([append only],"["),9)

)

This assumes that you are just using the default Append only settings.

Use image onload technique along with this code:

//$("#_fid_7").closest("tr").hide();

$("#_fid_6").click(function() {

 if ($(this).is(":checked")) {

  $("#_fid_7").val(new Date());

 } else {

  $("#_fid_7").val("");

 }

});

Lift the comment on the first line if you want to hide the date field from being visible.
