Auto mileage expense, confused!

In QB Simple Start, I need to expense auto mileage. Being new to business accounting, I'm not really sure how to do this. Do I calculate mileage x .55, then do a gj entry to credit auto expenses and debit cash? Then add a memo with auto details?

The solution

You debit Auto expense & credit either Owner's Investment or Loan from Shareholder depending on the type of entity the company is.

LLC, Partnership, SOle Proprietor - Owner's Investment
Corp either "S" or "C" - loan
