WHEN IS 1040X AVAILABLE
WHEN IS 1040X AVAILABLE

The 2008 1040X has not been finalized by the IRS after that it will take approx 10 days to update in Pro Series
That doesn't really answer the question of WHEN. Do you have a projected IRS completion date? I also need to know when the 1040X will be available.

There's no way for fellow users on this board to know when a form will become final. But all this interest in the Form 1040-X brings up 2 questions. Why would you need to amend a 2008 return already? The only reason I can think of is if you have clients who have filed for 2008 and then purchased a house as first-time buyers in 2009, and now want to amend their 2008 return for the credit. Unless you have all that going on, why do you need a 2008 1040-X at this stage of the season?
Besides, you can use a prior version of ProSeries to prepare a 1040-X. In fact, you should use the 2008 program only to prepare a 2008 amended return. If you use it to prepare an amended return for any other year, you're simply using the 2008 1040-X as a fill-in-the-blank PDF form. If you're doing an amended return for a prior year, you'll still have to do all the calculations by hand and you'll still have to track down the forms and instructions from the prior year for the attachments to the 1040-X.
The IRS website still shows the latest version of the 1040-X was one revised 11/2007. If you absolutely have to have one now, download that form and have at it. Remember that the only year you can use ProSeries to automatically calculate and populate a 1040-X is the year for which the program is issued, i.e., 2007 program for a 2007 1040-X, 2008 program for a 2008 1040-X.
If I'm missing something here, please post further specifics. I just don't see why having a 1040-X in the 2008 program is so important, especially on January 19. If you really need to amend a 2008 return this early, please explain why. And if you do have to amend, then download the form (or use a 1040-X from a prior version of ProSeries) and have at it. The Form 1040-X is pretty much a generic form that can be adapted and used for any tax year.

I think there are many reasons why someone would already need the 1040X. In my situation, my 20 year old daughter just finished filing her return online, with another company. After I took a look at it, I realized that she did not get some credits she was entitled to take. Since her filing status changed from being declared as a dependent to being single she also got a stimulus payment. The generic 1040X does not have a line to put this on. the 2008 edition is going to be needed in this case.
THANKS bethsanphasiri for your nice comment!!! I have several desperate people that wanted to file without the casualty and we are amending with that info and I have a girl available to do that although by hand it takes twice as long so I await the 1040X update.
Thanks
