Adding the year to invoice dates

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2010

When I am entering in last month's invoices onto QuickBooks, I have to manually enter the year instead of it just knowing it is 10.  Exp - I'd like to be able to just type 10/4 and it automatically know to finish with /10 instead of having to enter that part in as well.

Try just entering 10/4 & pressing the tab key.

Hope this helps. If so please mark solved, if not please ask more questions. Thanks!

I've tried that and it doesn't work.  I think I need to add a year default in somewhere but not sure where to do that.

Edit menu > Preferences > General > My Preferences > Select "Use today's date as default"
See if that helps.

sorry Ray, that is already set. Still have to manually add month/day/year  in invoice column.  Since I am entering last month's jobs, I understand that I need to manually type in the month & day, but it would be great if it just recognized the year as 10 as in 9/9/10.  If I type in 9/9 and tab to next column, it still does not add the 10 after the last slash.

Both Outlook and Excel allow you to do this, it's just basic functionality these days (and has been for years). Unfortunately, Intuit has a lot of catching up to do.

This works, simply type in "1005" - leave out the slashes - and then tab,
QuickBooks will add the current year.

This doesn't work, obviously, for any other year - you would have to enter the entire date (eg. 100609).

Hope that helps,

Donna

@Brieerin,

Can you please clarify why you think entering the date as I described won't work?
I use this method daily.

Just to reiterate: if you want to enter a date for June 10 in the current year, simply enter 0610 in the date field of your transaction and then tab to the next field.
QuickBooks will automatically enter the date as 06/10/11.

Additionally, if you want to enter today's date you can just enter "T" for "Today" and QuickBooks will enter the current day's date.

The only time you have to enter the year when entering a date is if it is a different year than the current.  In that case you would enter something like 061010 then tab to the next field, then QuickBooks will convert that to 06/10/10.

QuickBooks is a great program, it sounds like you could really benefit from working one-on-one with a Certified ProAdvisor for some "basic trainng".  You can find one near you by going to the Help menu in QuickBooks and selecting "Find a Local QuickBooks Expert"

Best regards,
Donna
