How do you get it to appear in the Template and the Subtotal / Total column? I only see Message, Subtotal, Sales Tax, Payments/Credits, Balance Due, Customer Total Balance, Job Total Balance and Long text as options.
it gets listed as a line item. for example
1234 widget 1 @ $10 $10
2395 doohicky 2 @ $5.25 $10.50
subtotal $20.50
shipping & handling $6.00
then the sales tax is on the bottom with the total.

I'm creating a new invoice template that needs freight included. My subtotal is part of the footer with sales tax and total. Won't the freight charge be taxed if it's a line item?
when you set up the item called "Freight," do not check the box that says "taxable."

Ok, did that. So, if I understand you correctly, the invoice subtotal should be set up as an item as well? This will leave only the Sales Tax and Total in the template footer? Is there anyway to put freight in to the footer below the sales tax item. This would be less confussing for the customer.
The footer can only contain the fields that are listed on the footer tab, when are out of layout designer

You do not need to put the subtotal in the body as an item, it can just show up at the bottom. The shipping can not be put in the footer, sorry.

You can put the shipping/freight value in the footer of the invoice if you use a third party product like CCRQInvoice (which my company produces). Note that you would have to talk to our sales department for a special version that handles this, as the one listed on our web site currently doesn't have that feature. And note that you would have to create a template using our template editor, which is more complicated.
We have you set up one "other charge" item for freight, and you add that to the invoice as you would any other item. However, when the printing program sees this particular item it will pull it out and print it in the footer, while automatically adjusting the subtotal so that it doesn't include that charge.
In April 2011. Look at the original post.... .. Answer some current questions.
And other people asked further questions in December, which is what I and others have responded to. So those are current questions. Now, I do agree that the person who asked the subsequent questions should have created a NEW discussion, but they didn't and they deserve an answer. Unfortunately, this forum no longer has a way to "close" a discussion, a feature that we used to have...
If you prefer not to see the updates to this question you can "unsubscribe" from the discussion, then you won't see the updates. Although sometimes the unsubscribe feature is a bit hard to work with...
Konachan,
CCRussell, is trying to help and on 01/04 you indicated you needed more help with your question. Let's all play nice in the sandbox.
Thanks,
