Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! During this time, you can shop, but can’t place orders online, activate products or update account info. We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. For more info, see our community discussion.

Adding Customers and Accounts in proper order

US QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions : 11.0: Professional Services

When adding a customer or a new account, the new entry is always shown at the top of the list. I have to switch to single user mode and move the customer or account to its proper location in the alphabetical list. Can't this be done automatically?

Yes,   Close out of the specific report.    Then open the report.

Its not a report that I'm having problems with.  It is the actual customer list or the chart of accoutnts list.  When I add a new customer or account, QB's does not drop the new customer or account in the correct alphabetical location in the list.  I have to switch to single user mod and move the new item manually to keep the list sorted alphabetically.

Perhaps i was not clear.

I found this to be the case.   Exit or close the customer list or the chart of accounts list.

Next go back into the report. And the new items will be sorted alphabetically.

It's more of a window, issue than Quickbooks.   I have noticed the same thing happens when I add  a new folder in  a windows directory.   When i close the directory and reenter the items are stored correctly.

We have closed out of the windows and the lists are still not in alpha order.  Any other suggestions?

Got to the list (such as the customer list in the Customer Center) and right click on it to get the context menu. Select "Re-sort list". That should resort things in the list itself.

If this helped, please give a "thumbs up" or mark it Solved.
