How do I add debit card to a checking account account?
How do I add debit card to a checking account account?

you can create a sub account under your checking account
go to list>chart of account create new select bank enter name of the new account then put check on use subaccount select your checking account save
If u think this answered your question mark it Solved...Thanks
Maxwell,
I agree with Amy-in-PA, in that you do not need a subaccount. Also, even if you want to keep track of all debit card purchases, when you write check for these purchases, in the check number field if you put DC you may do a report for all checks with the DC number, eliminating an extra account in your chart of accounts which is meaningless.

Maxwell, you could do as Grex suggested, but I don't understand why you think you need something special to "add" your debit card to your checking account in QB. To my way of thinking, the debit card is just a special way to write checks from the checking account, and instead of a real check number, you can put "DC" or something as the "check number" each time you use the debit card, right in the main "checking account" screen.
I guess the sub-account is a nice idea if you actually want to keep track of debit card purchases, vs normal checks that you write. But if you don't have to do that, you could do as I suggest above.
My thanks to all, Amy, JulieNOTJulie3 and Gextrex. You have helped a 62-year old man that grew up with a slide rule and abacus. You have made this experience lest frightening and intimidating.
Thank you all.

Yes the debit card is like another way to write checks...but if you have a fair amount of debits it flows much quicker to set it up as a bank acoount and sub it to the main account...you don't have to constantly switch the numbering
This is from my own experience...not just hypothecating.
In QB that will pose a problem in the reconcile window since QB will not pull in sub account entries
Rustler - Thank you for the additional clarification which I did not include in my post.

Rustler...is this your way of "going at me"... thanks for educating me on this...now I know enough to be dangerous...a little more ed, and I may even become helpful.
Dear Essjay, Please do not berate yourself. You know far more than I and were a help. Rustler helped me additionialy but that does not demean or belittle the informtation you helped with. I am by far the least knowing of all in the group and the kindnesses of the group are humbling to me as well as helpful. Thank you all.
How considerate you are, Steven. You needn't worry about my ego, though..I have very few real feelings of insecurity.
Rustler and I have a good time trying to one-up each other...I am pretty sure I have him on Tax and Accounting, and I know without a doubt that he has me hands-down on Quickbooks...and I am perfectly fine with that. I have learned from him...I hope he's learned from me...and that's what its all about.
Another thing...My humor is dry, dry, dry..so dry you may never know when I am kidding...matter of fact that is the goal of dry humor. I want people to shake their heads and think "Was he serious?"...Watch Monty Python and you'll know what i mean...or my favorite CPA turned comedian, Bob Newhart (reruns only).
Anyway...didn't mean to get longwinded....saw too many coffee ads on the web...it makes me type like there's no tomorrow. Glad to have helped

Nah essjay "going at ya" was someone elses perception, if I was going at ya it would start with
