2011 installation still stalls

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows

I am trying to install 2011 on new Win 7 (no old version on this PC). The installation stalls on file FP_AX_MSI_installer.exe. I have install Flash 10.1.102.64 ... turned off antivirus software. Any other suggestions?

So it took me about an hour, but I finally got a usable workaround.

Quickbooks 2011 distributes with a version of the Adobe Flash Installer on the install CD, but the problem is that whenever Adobe upgrades Flash, they disable previous versions of the installer for security reasons.  So the issue is that the Quickbooks 2011 CD originally worked fine when it shipped, but then Adobe updated Flash upgraded and the Flash installer on the CD became obsolete.  This is a pretty bad oversight in my opinion, but we'll leave that be for now.

Here's what I did:

  1. Copy the entire contents of the installation CD onto your local machine.  I made a folder on my Desktop called "cd" and then copied everything off of the Quickbooks 2011 install CD into that folder.
  2. Eject the installation CD from your machine.
  3. Assuming you named your directory "cd" like I did, go to the directory "cd/ThirdParty/Flash10".  You should see a file called "install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi".  Rename that file to something else.  Doesn't matter what.  I renamed it to "install_flash_player_10_active_x_old.msi".
  4. Now you need to download the proper flash version.  Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/... and click the link "Download MSI Installer" under the "Windows" section.  This file has the name "install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi" (hence renaming the old file).  Save this file into the "cd/ThirdParty/Flash10" directory.
  5. Go back to the "cd" directory.  Double click the "Setup.exe" file.  This will run the installer just like it was run from the disc, but now it will pick up the new Flash installer that you downloaded.

That worked for me.  Hope it helps you!

I can't install my new Pro 2011 software either. I downloaded mine and during installation (after downloading) it always stops at the status "computing space requirements" - "ERROR 1606. Could not access network location %APPDATA%\."  I'm not sure if this means that I do not have enough space or there is a problem with the downloaded program. I need some help.

ReticentCouch's fix worked perfectly!  I've spent 3+ hours trying to install QB2011 only to have it hang at Flash each time.....

Thank you for the clear, concise instructions.
