Anita, what version of 2009 do you have? Mine still says Jan 2010.
Joan, it is unlikely that the 2009 will be updated. You can use the Jan 2010 form, or copy the input to the Screen 29 of the 2010 program to print just the 1040X. We go through this almost every year.

I'm with George. My 1040X in the 2009 program says Jan 2010. Lacerte generally does not update the 1040X version in prior year programs. I complained about this years ago, but that is their policy.

Synergy Tax - I did check for updates and it didn't change. Just to be clear, 2009 is showing the Jan 2010 revision, not the Dec 2010 revision which is when the 1040X form reverted back to the old format.

you are correct, 2009 program has Jan 2010 version, 2010 version shows Dec 2010.
Didn't realize they changed it again, just noticed that 2009 program changed it from what it used to look like.
I don't think it matters which version you use. It looks like they went back to the original format of the 1040X instead of this one column deal which probably made no sense to IRS agents.

Yes, we're stuck with whatever Lacerte gave us for '09, and that's that. If you can't stand the '09 version of the 1040X, use the '10 program to do the '09 amendment. I recently downloaded an update to '09, but I think the update was only for some corporate and/or fiscal-year filers, nothing to do with the format of the 1040X.
