Important Announcement! A planned system-wide upgrade will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend in the US (From Thurs, May 24, 2012 at 6 pm PDT thru Tues, May 29, 2012 at 5 am PDT). This includes QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll, Point of Sale, & Salesforce.com. This is only for US based products. This does not affect QuickBooks Online customers! We apologize for the inconvenience & thank you for patience while we improve our infrastructure to better serve you. International versions are unaffected. 2006 file wont open in 2009

US QuickBooks for Macintosh : 2009

I backed up my company file in 2006 but it will not open in 2009. Everytime I try to open it in 2009 it gives me a message: operation could not be completed. file exists. and then in another window it says: the doent could not be opened.

Hi Stripper! Thanks for asking a question here in the forum!

It sounds like QuickBooks would like you to name your file something different when you are restoring your backup to QuickBooks 2009. Walk through the steps again and this time, change the name of the file. You can either change the name completely or just add a number or letter to the end of the file name when restoring.

Just be sure you move your other QuickBooks files (when looking in your folders, QuickBooks files end with .qbw) to an archive folder or CD or Flash Drive somewhere because you will only want to use this file (with the new name) from now on.

Please reply with any other messages or errors you encounter or mark your question as Solved or Helpful if your question has been answered. Thanks!
