1099 detail using unmapped accounts

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows

1099 Detail report is listing paid amounts for contractors for categories NOT mapped to 1099. For example an expense amount (for a nonmapped account) shows in the amount paid AND is added to balance for particular contractor. How do I remove these?

The report will show all activity. The unmapped stuff won't be put onto a 1099. It is just a review step, in case you made an error. Have you previewed the 1099s? They should be fine.

I previewed the 1099s and they are incorrect. The 1099 is including amounts from unmapped accounts.

When I pay a contractor their QBks bill has several line items, only one is compensation, others are assigned to expense accounts (mileage, etc), but those amounts sometimes are considered compensation for 1099. For these specific contractors some of their non compensation line items show in "uncategorized" amounts on 1099 summary report, but not all. Does my entry method affect this?

Without seeing the data, I can only describe, in general:

On the payment transactions to vendor names, you use Expenses tab, or Items mapped to accounts. The accounts usually as Expense or maybe also asset. You map box 7 to "multiple" so you can select all that apply. You only map reportable accounts, but if the bill from the vendor included material in the cost, you would report it.

It doesn't hurt to report everything. After all, the vendor makes their own tax form reporting their expenses.

You don't map AP or bank or any account that is "source of funds" used to make the payments. You map the functional accounts: what was paid for and not how it was paid.

There is no such thing as "compensation" to vendor names. This is payment for labor, professional services, or outside services. "Compensation" usually is Wages to employees. Don't get this confused or even have it look confusing in your bookkeeping.

Also, try unmapping. Save. Close QB. Reopen, remap.
