Has anyone done a return involving deductions pertaining to a postal worker, working a rural route? My client purchased a right handed Jeep and had additional costs. I think there is something unique to Postal Workers and I am not familiar.Thanks!
Yes, I have done them, but it has been over 10 years. I believe that they get a higher mileage rate than the standard mileage and they get to use their mileage from their home, to post office, on their route, back to p.o., and back home.
However, it has been 10 years, so my memory is sketchy. I would look in the pubs or go onto the IRS website and type in rural postal workers or something like that and see which pub it is in.

Yes, they still do get a higher mileage rate.
DON'T QUOTE ME, but I believe that is now taken care of on their W-2 through their reimbursement and they no longer have to take that deduction.
It can easily be looked up in any service or handbook.
You better check Pub on that they cannot use standard milage rate
