E File Consolidated Corp Federal Extension

I efiled the consolidator for the extension. There is no indication that it filed the info for the subsidiaries, the 7004 did not have a supporting statement listing the subs. Am I safe just filing the consolidator.

Electronically filing an extension with the consolidator also extends the subsidiaries. These are part of the 7004 electronic file sent to the IRS.

To verify this, highlight the consolidator at the main client screen. Click E-File on the menu bar and select E-File Support Tools, then click View E-File.

Another window will appear which contains the XML data for the extension in a split window. Scroll down in the lower window and the various names of the subsidiary corporations will appear. This complies with the 7004 line 5 instructions on page 3 of the IRS form.

Thanks,
Don M.

I called support about this since the Extension Status column on the client list was stating "Federal Accepted", I could not print the Extension Acceptance Letter. It was due to the client being a Consolidator. Since we had no way of knowing if the subsidary got extended we also did a paper extension.

Lacerte please fix the letter, and list the consolidator and subsidaries in it next year.

If you have to, you can always fix your own Lacerte letter, by clicking:

Settings, Client Letter, Electronic Return, EF Acceptance, and then you'll find whatever paragraph you want to change, add wording to, or whatever.

I called Lacerte with this issue yesterday and they informed me that for the Corp module you can file a consolidate extension if the return does not include certain states. I can't remember all the states he listed that disallow the consolidated extension but you could call to ask. If you have even one of them then it won't send the consolidated attachment.

As for the S-Corp module, it does not even allow you to file a consolidated extension. He could not inform me as to why but I think it may have something to do with the fact of S-Corp's holding shares of other entities and the elections that sometimes have to be made.

He also informed me that the PDF attachments were for electronic filing of the return only and not the extension, so don't let that fool you.
