Is DMS Getting Better?

I feel it is. Last year DMS crashed fairly often when I was scanning large documents but I havent' had that problem this year. Last year the last update was in January, this year the last update was in March. Last year DMS crashed sometimes when I print a single page from Lacerte Tax. This year I haven't had that problem yet. I hope DMS continues to improve the help screens and they add better support for large databases. I also hope they continue to stablize the program. I hope they add a button that allows me to print the current page of a document (instead of having to say print page 4 of 5).

If DMS isn't improved as promised, this will most likely be my last year to use it and may be my last Lacerte year. Although I appreciate the ease of use between Lacerte and DMS, I feel the program lacks basic features. Your comment about the lack of a "print current page" describes one of my biggest concerns.

There's also the backup issue. Most of my local CPA pals who use Lacerte have left DMS because of the problems encountered when using the backup function within the program. All seems to hinge on a compression issue causing the loss of the index in extreme cases. DMS techs have told me not to rely on the backup function within the program. So I do a manual backup, something that IMO should be unnecessary with a program marketed to professionals. I expect systemic problems like that to be found in entry level shareware.

Other programs I'm looking at, such as UltraTax, seem to have a much better paperless component.

I do hope they continue to upgrade DMS but they are selling it to Quickbooks users now for $299 (but it does not integrate with Lacerte Tax) so it seems they are focusing on the low-level market instead of the high-level market.

To my understanding, all known backup issues have been resolved this year, and there are many improvements in the works - some even made it into this summer's release.

Help! When I go to DMS and click on a file, only One Blank Page shows. However, the Acrobat PDF icon shows as well as the Size of the file i.e. 1028 KB. Why can't I see my DMS document.

I backup my Lacerte DMS everyday. However, upon returning from a two week vacation, I discovered that my DMS still has all of the scanned labeled files, but No Content.

Does anybody know how I can open up the DMS Database to see the 1028 KB document?

Moreover, to my surprise, my server only backed up the C Drive while I was away. Usually it backs up the D F & G Drives too. So out of 5 subfiles it usually backs up, only two were backed up, and three were not.

What should I do now?

Patient Pat
