Emailing Password Protected Documents

I'm suddenly having a problem in that my emails that contain password protected documents from DMS are not reaching recipients. When I send the same email with the same documents and do not password protect them they go through. I don't know if this Microsoft exchange/Outlook error or something with DMS. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Is the entire email not reaching them, or just the attachments?
Are either you or the recipient (or the respective network administrators) receiving any security messages relating to them not being scannable?
