Custom Report Showing S/T Capital Loss Carryover

I am trying to print a custom report showing short term capital loss carryovers for all clients. Anyone know how to do this?

I couldn't figure out how to do exactly what you ask, but here's what I did that was better than nothing:

I figured out a way to make a filter for capital loss carryovers in general, not necessarily short-term.  Then I took all the filtered clients and did a customized database report showing their last name, first name, and "capital gain" amount (just to make sure they really all were showing a $3,000 loss as their "capital gain"), as well as "short term capital loss."  (By the way, the STCL carryover wasn't the same amount as the STCL in one case where I peeked at results, and it wasn't even exactly $3K different from the STCL, but at least you knew who had a short term capital loss in the first place.)

The next logical step, I feel, would be to print out the "worksheets" on all such clients, to see what their capital loss carryovers are.  You'd have a start, being able to ignore the ones that have only a small capital loss, or no Schedule D, or a net gain, or no SHORT term capital loss.

I created the filter with:  Filter, Modify Filter, Add (and I named my new filter "CLCO" which stands for "capital loss carryover").  Then I clicked the filter, clicked Groups, clicked Add, and added a new group which I also, unimaginatively called "CLCO."

I added search terms for the group, namely,  "Capital Gain is at most, minus3000."  This was the only relevant search term I could find.

Then I exited the filter setup, and then on the left of my screen, below the filters Lacerte automatically gave me, was my new filter, CLCO.  I clicked it, clicked the group within it, and now my screen showed me only the people who had capital losses at least $3000.  I then highlighted that whole screen's worth of clients, and clicked "Print, Database Reports, Custom."  I clicked "new" to make the new custom report.  I

I clicked the top field of "client info" to open it up and highlight the "name (last name first)" field and clicked the arrow to move it over to the right, to be part of my report.  Then I clicked the main category called "Income" to open that up.  I found both "Capital Gain" and "Short Term Capital Loss" so I asked for both to be part of the report with that same right-arrow technique.

Hope this helps.

Boy, Lacerte is so fancy, schmancy. PS has {HomeBase}{Column Headings}{highlight and click to add columns. Save}.

You can get  'Capital gain(losses)' and 'Carryover-Capital Loss' as headings. No short term ones, though.

If you use Pro Series Basic I might not be able to help you. If you use Turbo Tax I might refuse to help you. All others, watch out! ;-)
