Does Windows 7 work with POS 6?

QuickBooks Point of Sale

I am using POS version 6 on my old computer. I just added WIndows 7 to my new computer and I want to move POS to it? Do I have to do something special to get it to work?

This should help:

The short answer is: Probably not

While the page above is not specific to POS, the fact remains that POS 6 is a "sunsetted" (old enough to be unsupported) version; I have my doubts that it would even work properly on Vista.

Also, please not that only the current editions of QB (v2010) and QBPOS (v9) are "officially supported" on Win7 at all. QB08+ and POS 7+ will likely install just fine on Win7, but you won't be able to get tech support on them (POS 7 is problematic anyway even on XP, I'd actually recommend v6 over it)

My recommendation would be to check out Microsoft's XP Mode for Windows 7 -- It's a free package, but it only works on Win 7 Professional or higher. Also, make sure to check their compatibility charts to make sure that your hardware supports it. If not, you can try something like VirtualBox -- it's free, too, but it is not dependent upon your CPU having HV capability; but you would need your original XP install discs to use that.
