2008 Short Year Trust Return

The Trust is terminating midyear. After legal haggling between the trustee and beneficiary, the trustee will provide a 2008 K-1 based on the short year in 2008 of the terminated trust. I am using Proseries 2007 to create the 1041 and k-1 for the short year. I should probably label everything Pro Forma and state that a final 1041 and K-1's will only occur after 12/31/08 when broker 1099's are received and 2008 Proseries is available with possible law changes. Does that sound like the way to go?

Yes. Using the prior year's return and crossing off the 7 for an 8 only can lead to delays.

If you use Pro Series Basic I might not be able to help you. If you use Turbo Tax I might refuse to help you. All others, watch out! ;-)
