Deducting interest on a boat

I have a client who just bought a boat (this would be for 2008). They do have a bed on the boat as well as a separate kitchen area with cooking accomodations.I think because they have the bed as well as the separate kitchen and a toilet, that this qualifies as a second home and the interest is deductible. I did read something about a marine sanitation system, is that just a fancy term for toilet and the filtering of waste?Anyway, would the interest be deductible? Thanks in advance

Interest on a second home qualifies as deductible residence interest if the boat has eating, sleeping, and bathroom facilities.

There is requirement for them to use it for a certain amount of days during the year. I can't remember right off what the requirement is but you need to make sure they can document the days that they stay on the boat.

there are no usage requirements. You may be thinking of the personal usage rules if the boat is rented out for part of the year.
